Alabama Rural Ministry’s 2016 MLK, Jr. Celebration
Monday, December 14, 2015
Alabama Rural Ministry will be celebrating MLK Day 2016 through community worship, home repair ministry, and a children’s event! All are invited to worship with us on Sunday January 17th from 4pm – 6pm at Tuskegee Methodist Church. On Monday, January 18th, two opportunities are available: (1) volunteers can serve with us through home repair ministry and (2) children ages 5-10 can attend our MLKidz event!
The community wide worship service on Sunday January 17th at Tuskegee Methodist Church will feature a sermon from Rev. John Brooks, a district superintendent of the Montgomery – Prattville district of the United Methodist Church. Rev. Brooks’ sermon will be based on Dr. King’s sermon, “On Being a Good Neighbor”. The event will also feature performances from gospel choirs and the Tuskegee Youth Safe Haven children as well as a time of community prayer. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. This will be a great time of worship, prayer, and fellowship for our community!
Individuals, churches, or organizations interested in volunteering with us on Monday January 18th are encouraged to register by contacting Abby Burgess (abby@arm-al.org or (334) 501-4276 x200). Registration is required. Volunteers will gather for breakfast and devotion at 8am at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church before serving with families at various homes throughout Lee and Macon counties. Service will include various home repair tasks and will be completed by 4pm. More details will be available upon registration.
Children ages 5-10 in the Tuskegee area are invited to join us for MLKidz on Monday January 18th from 10a to noon at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church! This is a free event that will include a Bible lesson, arts and crafts, and activities that will help children learn about Dr. King’s life and legacy. A light lunch will also be served. Please contact Abby Burgess (abby@arm-al.org or (334) 501-4276 x200) to learn more about this wonderful opportunity for children!
