 Bicycling Across Alabama!

April 27th was one of the most devastating days in Alabama as tornadoes ripped through our state. While much rebuilding has occurred there is still more to be done. And long before the storms, many families were living in quiet despair. Vital repairs such as a leaking roof, a hole in their floor, or leaks in their pipes continued to get worse and yet with a fixed income, not much could be done. It is for these reasons and more that eighteen plus cyclists are bicycling across the state of Alabama in May.

I serve with Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM) and we coordinate home repair efforts in various counties in our state through volunteers. We are embarking on our 3rd annual Cycle of Service. The intent is to cycle and serve while raising money to help fund home repairs. We still are inviting others to ride with us and raise awareness about poverty housing and how we can help in a hands- on way! Below is the basic information regarding the ride:

There are two main ride options :

Century Ride (100 miles plus) and State-to-State Tour- Begins in Livingston, routes to Cuba, then onto Selma, Montgomery, Tuskegee, and then Phenix City

The Blackbelt Tour starts in Livingston and ends in Phenix City at the Chattahoochee River

A “Family Fun Challenge” is the final leg from Tuskegee to Phenix City on Sunday May 6th at 8:00 AM

On Saturday May 5th, there will be community service work day in Tuskegee from 8-4. We will be coordinating volunteers for serving in local home repair and other service areas.  Anyone wanting to volunteer that day can also contact us for information.

And if you cannot cycle with us, we will have some options for virtual riders. To register and for more information, go to our web site http://cycleofservice.arm-al.org  and print off the registration form. Registration goes through April 20th. So, come join us on this great adventure and help us extend Christ’s love as we ride!
